Festival History

The Bantry Kupala Festival began its journey in 2017 and was held in the Maritime Hotel in Bantry, where the participants showcased their knowledge of their culture and traditions involving Midsummer Night. The festival hasn’t been complete without singing, dancing, and involving the audience in many interesting activities which evolve around Kupala Night. In 2018, the festival brought a bigger and broader range of programmes for the audience in all age ranges. The festival was held in Wolfe Tone Square and had the addition of having a Viking village in the festival territory. Due to harsh weather conditions, the 2019 festival venue was moved from Wolfe Tone Square to Bantry Bay Hotel’s indoor facilities, where it was held with very high attendance. The 2020 festival was cancelled due to the worldwide pandemic of COVID-19, but the organisers brought the festival online the next year.
